Introducing our newest clinician…Rachel Thompson, Ph.D.

Have you ever been at a crossroads? Contemplating a change and not knowing where the turn will actually take you… will it lead to more, less, the same? We often think of these moments in the context of seemingly big life changes and yet they also come in the form of daily life decisions where some aspect of the world is clearly out of our control. Beyond prediction. And yet we choose to leap anyway.

I wonder how many times you have already leapt today, this week, this year? How many leaps will I take by the end of this blog? Does anyone realize that each of these leaps often comes with tension, confusion, and fear? I hope they do.

Regardless, writer takes deep breath, clears throat…

     Leap #1.

Hello Mental Health! I am so excited to be joining this team of therapy providers in Cincinnati. Hello to new challenges, freedoms, and dreams! I am coming from prior work in outpatient and inpatient adult mental health care within state and federal systems. I am now accepting new clients for in-person and virtual appointments! Heads up that my availability will continue to grow as I transition into full-time private practice across this summer.

     Leap #2.

My experiences and training have led to a wide variety of adult services available. My orientation is based in keeping each unique person at the center, understanding the social layers around, and the feelings/thoughts within that may be influencing wellbeing. We’ll develop a plan together of how to address your concerns and goals while receiving the emotional support you deserve, and developing any skills needed to get there along the way.

     Leap #3.

My intentions are to grow wellness in our community and decrease mental health stigma while also improving my life and being a force for good in the life of others important to me. Which means I will strive to value my personal wellness just as much as I value those that I serve and work alongside daily. (Did I really just put that in writing?!? Lot to live up to!)

     Leap #4:

I want to have initiated a new group program at Hello Mental Health by this time next year. Stay tuned! And better yet, let’s keep leaping together.

     Leap #5:

I’m going to celebrate this FIRST blog post of mine.
